Build AI and XR Systems That Matter

The Einbrain Lab in the Department of Engineering Technology & Industrial Distribution at Texas A&M University is planning to appoint a postdoctoral researcher to advance ambitious engineering research in AI, XR, and human-AI collaboration.

This position is supported through Einbrain Lab’s broader portfolio of active research funding and is separate from the lab’s NSF Award #2538780 project. The postdoctoral researcher will work with Dr. Donggil Song and interdisciplinary collaborators to turn research questions into robust, useful systems that address real human needs.

Research Opportunity

This role is for a researcher who wants to connect rigorous engineering with human benefit. Possible areas of contribution include:

  • AI-enabled software, adaptive interactive systems, and human-AI collaboration
  • XR interfaces, immersive environments, and interactive computing
  • Product-oriented engineering: transforming research concepts into complete, usable systems
  • System design, implementation, integration, testing, and evaluation in authentic use contexts
  • Research leadership across technical development, empirical studies, scholarly writing, and project collaboration

The exact project portfolio will be shaped by active lab priorities and the postdoctoral researcher’s expertise. The appointment is not limited to a single project, and it is intended to provide room for meaningful technical and scholarly leadership within Einbrain Lab’s engineering research agenda.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome candidates who have completed, or will soon complete, a Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, human-computer interaction, learning technologies, or a closely related field. Strong candidates will bring:

  • Demonstrated research experience in AI, XR, interactive systems, human-AI interaction, or related areas
  • Evidence of building, deploying, or evaluating systems that serve real users
  • Sound engineering judgment and the ability to make, justify, and validate technical decisions
  • A record of scholarly communication, including peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, or comparable research outputs
  • An interest in collaborating across engineering, design, and application domains

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and contribute to the design, development, and evaluation of AI and XR systems
  • Help translate research ideas into complete, usable products and research tools
  • Develop research plans, conduct studies, analyze results, and communicate findings
  • Contribute to manuscripts, conference presentations, proposals, and project reports
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and external partners across Einbrain Lab projects
  • Help strengthen the lab’s technical infrastructure and research culture

Appointment Details

This is a planned postdoctoral research appointment in Einbrain Lab, Department of Engineering Technology & Industrial Distribution, College of Engineering, Texas A&M University, under the supervision of Dr. Donggil Song. The position is expected to be supported through multiple active research funding sources in the lab.

The appointment will begin as a one-year contract. A potential extension may be considered based on performance and available funding. Start date, compensation, benefits, eligibility, and application procedures will be confirmed before the public posting is finalized. Employment will be contingent on the applicable Texas A&M hiring process and required approvals.

Start a Conversation

Candidates who are interested in future consideration may email einbrain@tamu.edu with:

  • A brief statement of research interests and how they connect with Einbrain Lab
  • A CV, including publications and relevant systems or projects
  • Links to representative research, products, code, demos, or technical writing

If possible, include an example of a system you helped bring into real use and a technical or research decision you made. Please do not treat this draft as a formal offer or final vacancy announcement; formal appointment details and application instructions will be provided in the finalized posting.
